The Haleyville Police Department is comprised of 5 divisions: Uniformed Patrol, which includes one full-time K-9 officer, Investigations, Communications, Records, and Support. The Investigations division includes one full-time criminal investigator and one full-time narcotics investigator. The department consist of 13 full-time employees and 1 part-time employee as well as 5 full-time civilian employees and 6 part-time civilian employees, all highly competent, committed and dedicated men and women providing service and protection to the city and its residents on a full-time basis.

Haleyville Fire/Rescue is a combination department that provides fire protection with a full time chief plus 3 other fulltime career firefighters, 36 paid on call firefighters of which 19 are certified volunteer firefighters, 14 certified as firefighter II,13 first responders, 4 EMT-Basics and 1 Paramedic. Station 1 is manned by two full time certified firefighters per shift. Firefighters work 24 hours on and 48 hours off except the fire marshal who works 8 hr dayshifts during the week and relief shift work as needed.

The Fire Department's coverage area includes the City of Haleyville and sorrounding communities in both Winston and Marion Counties. The coverage area is approximately 72 square miles and serves a population of roughly 12,000 people.
Ladder Truck
The Haleyville Fire/Rescue Department operates out of two stations. Station 1 is located at 1900 12th ave and Station 2 is located at the Haleyville Airport. Haleyville Fire is dispatched by both the City of Haleyville and Winston County E-911. Haleyville Fire/Rescue can he heard on the scanner frequency of 154.130 Mhz. The Department responds to all types of fire calls,rescue calls, wrecks with entrapment, and medical calls at the request of RPS ambulance service. The department averages 250-300 calls per year. Haleyville Fire/Rescue provides mutual aid to several local departments and is in the process of training and implementing a Technical Rope Rescue team that will be the only one of its kind in the area. Haleyville currently has an ISO rating of 5. ISO ratings are from 1 to 10 with an ISO class 1 being the best. Haleyville Fire responds with the first out pumper in less than 1 minute and averages an on scene time of less than 4 minutes within the city limits. The average response is 20 members per call.

Haleyville Fire/Rescue has an excellent training program. Training is conducted weekly on Thursday night from 7:00-9:00 p.m. The department provides a 160 hour volunteer certification course every 3 years. A 160 course started on May 2nd, 2005 and completed on November 3rd with 17 firefighters from 6 local departments completing the course. The 2005 class set a state record as being the first class to have a 100% first time pass rate on a state firefighter certification exam. All courses are taught free of charge except for the cost of text books.

Current projects of the department include completing the second station at the Haleyville Airport, building a training center at the old North Waste Water Treatment Plant and completing the display for the 1926 American LaFrance Pumper. The Department has 1 Chief, 1 Asst. Chief, 4 Captains, 4 Lieutenants, 1 Training Officer, 1 Safety Officer, 1 Public Relations Officer, 1 Fire Prevention Officer,1 Fire Marshall,5 certified Fire/EMS instructors, 5 CPR instructors, 4 certified aerial apparatus operators, 6 certified pumper apparatus operators and 2 haz-mat technicians. The Fire prevention officer is available for classes at day cares, churches, schools, and birthday parties upon request.

Fire departments from four counties responded to a fire that destroyed three warehouses full of artificial flowers. No one was injured, but several firemen struggled with the heat. A couple of Mays employees reportedly suffered heat exhaustion while moving the contents of the office. A Total of 54,000 Square Feet was loss & 1.6 Million Gallons of Water Used.
